Welcome everyone! Since I see so many amazing posts each week the LEGO Ideas platform, I thought it would be fun to take some time and review submissions each week and give the spotlight to some of our more creative community builders. For this series I will be reviewing all sets submitted each week, and choosing my top five that I believe stood out the most, along with a few honorable mentions that deserve a mention. There will be a short video planned weekly on Thursday as well for these if you’d like to show some support! Let’s get going!
#5 – Roman Temple by Ma1988

At our #5 spot we have the Roman Temple. I thought this one had a very interesting angle and I think ancient or historical architecture is teeming with possibilities for future sets. In particular I think the attention to detail here is fantastic, especially along the top of the columns and where the roof meets the outer walls. Having a line of these would make for great display pieces and would pair nicely with other existing sets like the Pyramid of Giza and the Roman Colosseum. Link here.
#4 – Tribute to Ada Lovelace by Oliwia 2005

At our #4 spot we have the Tribute to Ada Lovelace. I’m a huge fan of the tribute sets and think they can pack a lot of character into such a small amount of space, and I think this one follows that wonderfully. Behind her is a uniquely designed bookshelf with sits next to her analytical engine, both of which having a crisp aesthetic about them. As a programmer myself, I think it would be wonderful to have a tribute set towards her given the strides she made in the field of computer science and as a woman in science overall. Link here.
#3 – The Grinch’s House by ChevalierCitronVital

At #3 is The Grinch’s House. I thought the weird architecture of the Grinch’s universe with all of it’s curves would make for a very flavorful LEGO set. I love the liberties that went into making his sleigh actually appear as it did in the movie, along with the door to his cave and the various props scattered throughout. The giant monkey and Cindy Lou Who minifigures are also a nice touch (plus the dog, of course). Link here.
#2 – Galaga by LoganBuildsBrix

Coming in at our runner up to #1 is Galaga! Two things come to mind when I see this set: The amount of detail and color in such few pieces, and the fact that LEGO could do a lot with retro videogames. In addition to the bugs and well designed space ship, I especially love that the creator put in studs to represent the stars behind the action, just as it’s seen in the game. If LEGO were to create a line of these (are you sensing a pattern yet? 😄), together they would make for an amazing collection. Link here.
#1 – Retro Arcade Center by PovedaBricks

Coming in at our #1 submission for the week is the Retro Arcade Center! Something many community builders get right every time is designing buildings with character, and this one is full of it. Of course the first draw to the set is the massive sign out front, but joining it are the two joysticks by it’s side which sit inside the castle-esque wall along the roof. Even cooler is the Atari logo in window left of the main door, which is another nice detail. This set really emanates to me the idea behind LEGO Ideas: keep it simple and work with the space you have. Inside the arcade is chock full of people enjoying themselves on different classic style arcade games, and even has a food station and bathroom! If this can make it to the finish line, I’m definitely going to try and snag one. Link here.
Edit: It looks like this idea submission was removed, so this link will no longer work.
If you guys want to see a bit more of these sets, be sure to check out the Idea pages themselves, and be sure to look out for my review video this Thursday where I’ll take a closer look at each of them. You can find me on my YouTube channel here.
Thanks for reading, more LEGO content coming soon!
